~Tips~
In Japan, usually drinkable tap water and toilet are free if you are guest or customer at restaurant.(except exclusive restaurant )

Michelin Guide 2009 Tokyo Restaurants & Hotels (Michelin Guides)

So except private small shops and automat(JidouHanbaiKi/JihanKi) of drinks like Cora,I think tourist do not need so much Japanese Yen cash (bank note and small coin).

As an image of Autovender

If you are staying in Japan as a tourist and you do not want to save a pretty penny(coins),to do pay with Credit card like VISA/MASTER/JCB brand or Debit card is better for you.

Therefore if you want to pay with card, ask to the staff to pay with card before payment is better.
